According to the World Health Organization (WHO, 2017), the world’s population is aging rapidly. By 2050 the world's population aged 60 and older is estimated to almost double.
Older people face physical and mental health challenges that need to be recognized and addressed.
Over 20% of adults aged 60 and over, suffer from a mental or neurological disorder. The most common mental and neurological disorders in this age group are dementia and depression, which affect approximately 5% and 7% of the world’s older population, respectively.
However, the stigma surrounding these conditions makes people reluctant to seek help.

Which factors influence healthy aging?
The environment, the community where people live, and the psychosocial support available are all factors that influence the aging process.
Also, healthy behaviors affect aging and contribute to improving physical and mental capacity. Research shows that it is really important to maintain healthy behaviors throughout life; particularly, eating a balanced diet, engaging in regular physical activity, and refraining from tobacco use.
